The importance of communication

Working remotely as a freelancer is not always easy, it takes hard work and above all great communication between all parties involved.

When I collaborate with clients, other designers or agencies I try very hard to ensure that all lines of communication are open throughout the project. It's vital when working remotely, that all involved are kept up to date on where things stand in terms of progress and any issues that might have presented themselves.

Using key stages for a project is helpful to keep everyone in the loop, that way we all know that by this date we should be here and by this date we should be live and so. We all know it's not rocket science, however I think it's often overlooked when working as a freelancer. I'm not going to tar all freelancers with the same brush, but in my experience the more reliable designers and developers are just better at communicating with their clients and not disappearing when times are challenging. I myself have experienced first hand other freelancers going quiet and non responsive, so I make it a priority to always keep you up to date. Even if it's a very quick email update or a good old fashioned phone call, it's these little things that help to keep the project ticking along.
